Practice makes Perfect

I did a lot of work on my second dollhouse this weekend. This time I decided to use some fusible adhesive to attach the appliqué pieces before sewing them in. I think this made a HUGE! difference. It was a lot easier to sew around the pieces when were already secured down.

For the roof this time I wanted to try something different. Instead of putting a panel of another color I appliques on strips of material for the roof. I wanted it to look like shingles. Honestly, I spent most of Saturday on the roof and got so frustrated with it I had to give myself a time out. While unwashed sitting in timeout with my glass (bottle is more like it maybe) of wine I did some thinking. I had been trying to sew everything together with white thread and it just didn't look right. Switching to red made all the difference. I'm really liking how the roof looks now.

When Kristen ordered the house she requested that it be yellow with a red door, have lupine around it and a blackberry bush. She also requested to add a soccer ball cause her daughter loves soccer. I made sure to include all her requests since this is exactly why I want to do custom work. I love the idea of tailoring an outfit or toy so that is uniquely special to the recipient only. Uniqueness is something that just cannot be produced in mass quantities. Anyways, to get back to the dollhouse, I embroidered some lupine on the front of the house. I really like how they turned out.

On the back of the house I appliqued a dog house using this cute doggie fabric I found shopping with my mom. Also, I appliquéd on a bush and added "blackberries" with embroidery floss. You may have to use your imagination with that one.
Back of the house
In the inside of the house I added a window and a dresser. I put the pulls on the dresser with embroidery floss. I stitched lines where the drawers should be. But they don't really show up. I think I may have to do them again in another color.

So far, the second time around making the dollhouse has been much easier. I'm thinking I may be able to put it together tonight. What do you think? Do I need to add anything more??
